JACOB ADAM GUDEMANN (son of MATTHIAS GUDEMANN and Anna Maria Oswaldin) was born November 25, 1753 in Vogelbach, Baden, Germany, and died April 19, 1818 in Marzell, Baden, Germany. He married Anna Barbara Kropfin on June 05, 1782 in Marzell, Baden, Germany, daughter of Hans Kropfin and Maria Heizin.

Notes for JACOB ADAM GUDEMANN:
Jacob Adam moved from Vogelbach to Marzell, two miles to the north, about 1782 when he married Anna Barbara Krophin, a widow of Marzell. He was 28 years old and she was 43 years old.

Their first son, Johann Jacob, born two months after the marriage, died when he was five months old. Their second son, also named Johann Jacob and our ancestor, was born fourteen months later. We almost didn't make it. He was born when his mother, Anna Barbara, was over 45 years old. We can imagine that he may not have been a very healthy child. However, healthy or not at birth, we must conclude that he developed into a healthy, virile adult when we find that he had thirteen children by two wives, including my great-grandfather Fritz, and that he died at the of 69.

When they married, Anna Barbara was a widow with three children (a fourth had died at the age of six) , the youngest being seven years old. She had married Friedrich Leisinger of Wies, Baden, Germany, in 1755 when he was 32 years old and she was only sixteen and one-half years old. Strangely, their first child was not born until five years later. Friedrich Leisinger died in 1779 at the age of 55, and Jacob Adam married the widow three years later.

Our ancestors lived in Marzell from about 1782, when Jacob Adam moved from Vogelbach to Marzell and married anna Barbara Kropfin, to 1818, when he died there.

JOHANN G?DEMANN (son of BARTHOLOM?US G?DEMANN and Maria Gretherin) was born 1643 in Endenburg, Baden, Germany, and died February 17, 1699 in Kaltenbach, Baden, Germany. He married Maria Strohmeyer on April 17, 1676 in Kaltenbach, Baden, Germany, daughter of Jacob Strohmeyer and Maria Pfunderin.

Notes for JOHANN G?DEMANN:
Johann moved from Endenburg to Kaltenbach, three and one-half miles to the north, and married Maria Strohmeyer of a prominent Kaltenbach family in1676.

In 1676, when Johann married Maria, the village name was spelled Kaltbach. The spelling was later changed to Kaltenbach.

When Maria was born in 1677, she was the first Guedemann to be born in the remote Kander River Valley ( the Kandertal) in the South Black Forest. From that time on all Guedemanns born in the valley were descendants of Johann Guedemann and Maria Strohmeyer. The Guedemann name still has a presence in the valley village of Marzell, Baden, Germany; and the Strohmeyer name is quite common in the valley to this day.

When Johann and his wife, Maria, died within eight days of each other in 1699, they left four children ages four to twenty years old, the eldest being our ancestor Jacob. When he married Margaretha Pfunderin, of nearby Luetschenbach, seven months later, we may surmise that the newlyweds cared for the three younger siblings.
