CATHERINE RUTAN'S PREVIOUS RELATIONSHIP:
Catherine Rutan had two children, Coonrad Rutan and Alice Rutan prior to marrying Conrad Lein.

It would seem that:
1)--Catherine was a widow with the married name of RUTAN (maiden name unknown)
--- OR ---
2)--Catherine had two children out of wedlock and they used her maiden name of RUTAN (doubtful...JLR)

Her two children are mentioned in Conrad Lein's will:

Conrad Lein was b. abt. 1704; d. abt. 1769.
In his will (Coonrad Liens of Saddle River Precinct, Bergen Co., yeoman) dated 23 Sep 1755, pr. 12 Oct 1769 (N.J. Wills: Lib. K, p. 137) he mentioned "Coonrad Liens (alias Rutan), a son that my wife had before I md. her, as well as Alice Rutan."
