He married SARAH MATILDA ALLISON February 08, 1866 in Quincy, Illnois, daughter of DAVID ALLISON and MARY BRENNEMAN. Notes for LEANDER PRALL: Leander was orphaned at eight years of age. He moved to Adams County, Illnois, with an older brother. Leander was in the Civil War Co. K 7th In. Volunteered for three months then reenlisted in the 33rd In. Volunteers. He was at Laurel Hill and in the 33rd Wild-cat army at Shelbyville. Leander moved to Franklin Township, Cass County, Iowa in September 1866. He spentone year faqrmingin 1873 in Smioth County, Kansas. Leander was 27y in the Turkey Grove Township, Cass County, Iowa, 1870 census, and Sarah 21y, Luella 2y, and Everett was 6/12. In the 1880 Franklin Township, Cass County, Iowa, census Leander was 36y, Sarah 30y, Luella 12y, Emmett 8y, and Arvilla 4y, In the 1900 Atlantic Township, Cass County, Iowa census Leander 57y, Sarah 51y, Emmett 28y, Rebecca 24y, Walter 19y, Ida 17y, Pluma Bell 14y, and Odie 13y. Leander moved his family from Cass County, Iowa to Bellingham, Washington in 1901. Leander Prall was charged with selling intoxicating liquors and keeping a public nuisance in Atlantic, Iowa, on July 4, 1899. Donald Prall of Atlantic, Iowa researched this. According to court documents and newspaper articles, Lee Prall operated a hotel and resturatnt on Lower Chestnut Stree in Atlantic and was brought to trial for selling liquor out of a back room. On teh same day he charged by court, Lee rant the following advertisement in the local newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, "Wanted- All the fine, spring chicklens in Cas and adjoining Counties, can use them in Lee's Hotel and Lunch Room, the bluefront, Lower Chestnut. Lee Prall" LEE PRALL GUILTY Jury so returns verdict this afternoon. The case of the State of Iowa vs Lee Prall was concluded today, the jury returning a verdict of guilty after being out a short time. The greater part of the testimony was heard yesterday after state produced a number of witnesses who swore that they purchased beer of the defendant at his place of business on Lower Chestnut Street and the location of the little room where the liquor was dispensed was described by most of them. The defense tried to show that the liquor was nothing but hop ale or malt tonic and that it was in no way intoxicating. It was also attempted to impeach some of the state's evidence by showing that several of the witnesses had, for a money consideration, agreed to swear that it was not beer but hop ale athey purchased from Prall and this proposition was made to a friend of the defendant. But this attempt rather miscarried. The defendant himself went on the stand and swore positively without reservation, that he never sold or kept for sale, andywhere in his life, intoxicating beverages, like hop ale. After a few witnesses were heard this morning the attorneys made tehir arguments. Mr. Meredith, for the State, was content so simply review evidence and put it before the jury in what he considered the proper light. Mr. Boorman, for the defense, amde a very elaborate speech in which he told of the previous life and reputation of the defendant, what an excellent character he had bourne, and how unreasonable it was to suppose that he would risk being sent to jail in order that he might make a little money selling intoxicating liquors, embellishng his speech with quotations from history and literature and adding many perporations about liberty, honesty and John Howard Paine, the author of "Home Sweet Home." The arguments were concluded, the jury instructed and sent out shortly before noon, and about half past one the attorneys were notified that verdict had been found. When all convened the foreman announced that the defendant was found guilty as charged. The sentence will doubtless be havier than it would have been had the defendant pled guilty, or had not taken the stand in his own behalf. (Jan. 30, 1900 Daily Telegraph, Atlantic, Iowa) Lee Prall, found guilty after a trial for running a liquor nuisance, was adjudged to pay a fine or $400, and attorney's fees of $100, and all costs in the case. In lieu of paying the fine, he was sentenced to 120 days in the county jail. Appeal bond was fixed at $600. (Feb. 20, 1900, Daily Telegraph, Atlantic, Ia.)
