      PERSONAL HISTORY
      Nicoline went to Seattle. Aunt Johanne was invited to her and went over in the early twenties. Nicoline was married to Fritz Johnson, and when she passed away, he came to Norway and married my Aunt Astrid. My father told me that this marriage was very unpopular in the family.

      Aunt Johanne really got her Examen Artium (added by Janet...Examen artium is the entrance examination to the Norwegian University) and she learned several languages (some at school, some by herself) English, French, German, Italian and some Russian.

      Aunt Johanne went to the USA in the early twenties where she went to a commercial school and later got a job as a clerk. She died from brain fever, my father told me. She was a member of the religious community called the Pentacostalists.

      MORE PERSONAL HISTORY
      I asked my mother about your grandmother, but she didn't have much to tell. She don't remember what kind of illness your grandmother died of, but it developed very rapidly But then she told me that your grandmother's mother - who is my grandmother had a sister who had emigrated to America, Seattle I suppose, where she successfully ran a shop for ironing clothes. Your grandmother Johanne was asked by her aunt to come over and work for her, which she did. This aunt was married to a swedish man, Fritz Johnson.
