Birth Certificate says November 30, 1912 WOUNDS OF WAR 35 Completed 8th grade 1927 Was a Lather, Metal Social Sec. # 517-03-8332 Entered service 4/17/42 Was rifleman and cook Company F 30th Infantry. Entered as Pfc. out as Technician Fifth Grade. Honorably discharged Aug. 2, l945 Army serial #39 605 266 Blue eyes brown hair. (I remembered him with blondish curly hair.) 5’ 5" Wt. 150 Algeria-French Morocco Tunisian Campaign Sicily Campaign Naples-Foggia Campaign Southern France campaign Germany Campaign Africa Oct 24 1942 Nov. 8 1942 Italy July 17, 1943 July 19 1943 France Aug. 10 1944 Aug 15 1944 He stepped on a mine somewhere. Was thrown up and hit the ground. No obvious wounds. After this he would wake up in the mornings with swollen feet. It got bad enough he went to the Dr. (Red Cross he said). By the time he got up and dressed and made it over to the Dr. the swelling would be down. They sent him back, saying he was trying to get out of the war. He didn't care much for the Red Cross. When he did get back, he was put into the hospital, Hq. Baxter General Hospital Spokane Washington. The bomb had caused bad internal injuries, that he eventually died from. More About JOSEPH J.
