BURIAL
#2255) Feb 23, 1824, in the cemetery of Mission Purisima I gave ecclesiastical burial to the body of ESTEBAN, neophyte of Mission Santa Barbara and to (four) adults de razon, who died on the day or night of the 21st in the revolt of the neophytes; and because I am ignorant of the names they are omitted from this declaration. The neophyte being of Santa Barbara Mission, the others from the Pueblo of Los Angeles. None received the sacraments for they died in this same fighting in the night, therefore I consented to sign" Fr. Blas Ordaz OFM
The names of the four travelers killed, as interlined later, were: DOLORES SEPULVEDA, RAMON SOTELO and SIMON COLIMA of Los Angeles, and the other, named MANCISIDOR de Loreto of San Blas. The names also appear in the handwriting of Fr. Arroyo on the back of last blank page of Book I. Difuntos de Mission Purisima.
(Note: Concluding the records growing out of the Indian revolt of February 1824 there appear 7 entries on March 26, 1824, listing the names of 7 neophytes executed for their participation in the revolt. These are Nos. 2266 through 2272. Fr. Antonio Rodriguez signs the single entry.
