BIOGRAPHY
"Andres Lopez Born c. 1695, probably at Villa de Sinaloa, died post - 1728 [Son Ignacio born at Loreto, 1728, 1768] (Rosa Sotomayor). Other than his son's report of parentage and birthplace, Lopez's California career is known only from H.H. Bancroft's report that a "Captain Andres Lopez" acted as a godfather at Loreto in 1723-1724. Bancroft almost certainly was misreading the abbreviation for Cabo [corporal] as the abbreviation for Captain [Bancroft, North Mexican States, vol. XV, p. 462 n. 26]."
