LAD WHO THREW OIL IN FURNACE, DEAD OF BURNS
---
Carlton Koldosky, 17, Will Be Buried Saturday at Woodlawn.

CLOTHES CATCH FIRE

Chest, Arms and Face Are Badly Seared by Great Blast
---
Carlton Koldosky, 17, died at 1 o'clock this morning in Crouse-Irving Hospital of burns suffered early Tuesday when he threw kerosene oil in a corn furnace at the Syracuse Chilled Plow Company plant. A mass of flame blew out of the furnace and enveloped the boy before he could move.
Koldosky's chest and face were seared by the blast and severe burns from his flaming clothing covered much of the rest of his body.
His father stood near him at the time of the accident but did not see his son's act. When he heard the youth scream Koldosky grabbed the torch-like figure and laid him in a nearby pile of sand to smother the flames. Other workers attracted by the cries of father and son turned on emergency fire hose on the burning clothing.
The boy remained in a semi-conscious condition until a short time before the end.
He was graduated from Franklin School and worked in the Chappell Dyer store for more than a year. His desire to get ahead and secure more pay led him to give up an offer to become a sales clerk, and enter the factory, July of this year.
He was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. John Koldosky, 105 Griffiths Street. The funeral will take place at the home of his uncle, Herman Schwald, 229 Grumbach Avenue, Saturday afternoon, and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Beecher Street.
