      - BIRTH & DEATH: Born in Wisconsin, died in 1906 (age sixty-six), and was buried on the day before the great San Francisco earthquake
      - MOTHER & SIBLINGS: The eldest of seven children; was thirteen years old when his father died. His mother, a native of New York, crossed the plains from the Empire State with her parents.
      - MARRIAGE: To Mary Gallagher, native of Santa Clara County, the daughter of Andrew Thomas and Maria (Martin) Gallagher, and the granddaughter of Andrew T. and Mary (Siskron) Gallagher, of New York.
        Mrs. French died in 1911 at the age of fifty-seven years.
      - FAMILY: Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer French had eight children: Alden, John, Ernest A., Hazel, Marian, Albertina, now deceased; Gertrude, and Andrew, also deceased
      - BUSINESS: In 1883 moved to San Jose. In partnership with Mr. Jarvis engaged in distilling. Also bought & sold horses, hay, wood and coal.
        He prospered as a farmer, a cattleman, and also a grain and hay farmer. His holdings totaled 300 acres. He was a large grain farmer, later became a lead breeder of Percheron horses and Durham cattle for many years. The French home ranch was a noted place.
