      Ranulfo had been living as man and wife with Maria Ygnacia Lopez with the promise of marriage. She called him down to Pio Pico's ranchito, informed him she was in the "family way", and wanted him to fulfill his promise of marriage. He refused, and she shot him in the back of the neck, killing him instantly-JSR
